Index Card Challenge - Week 4

This is Week 4 of the challenge which means summer is flying by.

Day 22 - fun with acrylics and a few doodles.

Day 23 - My peonies were in full bloom last week and I just couldn't get enough. I tried to paint a very close up view of them. The first layer is acrylics followed with a coat of glaze giving it a little bit more of a dimensional look.

Day 24 - A little folk art face in acrylics.

Day 25 - I started with some random splotches of acrylic paint and spotted this bunny waiting to come out.

Day 26 - Another stab at abstract usinig acrylics, Sharpie paint pens and a gel pen.

Day 27 - Started with gesso and color wash sprays followed a bird torn from a dictionary page, a bit of scrap paper, acrylic paint with a stencil and stamped letters.

Day 28 - An alarm clock done for no apparent reason!

Number 17 - Abstract fun.

Number 18 - Intuitive abstract play.

Number 19 - This was going to be another attempt at an abstract but I kept being distracted by this partial face that I discovered .

Mixed Media Monthly

There is a new online challenge site called the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge blog. They issued their first challenge on June 1st and it is Spray inks and Mists.

I am also playing along with the Daisy Yellow Index Card-A-Day challenge so I combined the two and came up with this.

I started with a random coat of gess and then added some modeling paste in a few areas. While still wet I sprayed with Adirondack color wash sprays and Dylusions sprays. Details were done with Sharpie paint pen, ink, charcoal and pen.

Looking forward to the July challenge.

Index Card-A-Day challenge - week 2 complete

The Index Card-a-Day challenge hosted by Tammy Garcia of Daisy Yellow continues and has become my current obsession! Here are my cards from week 2.

Card # 8 - This card started out as the "galaxy" prompt and in my mind she was hanging the stars but it sort of lost something in the interpretation...

Card #9 - I had leftover black from an earlier card and rather than just let it dry up and throw it away i stamped some circles with an ink spray cover. I did some random stamping on the background and painted with a mixture of spray ink and glazing medium then finger painted the inside of the circles with acrylics.

Card # 10 - For this one I covered the card in gesso first the dabbed 3 colors of Distress stains. When dry I used black paint and a stencil over the top. The girl was leftover from a previous project and the book text is from a vintage Bugs Bunny book that I bought at a thrift store.

Card # 11 - The background on this one is truly mixed media. It's a little spray ink, a little acrylic paint, a little gesso and a little stazon ink. I drew the feather, painted it first with gesso, then brushed on color wash spray and then shaded with a copic marker.

Card 12 - This card started with torn strips of painted sheet music. I glued the pieces randomly  and when done I noticed this girl. She is mostly acrylics with a bitof charcoal and pan pastel.

Card 13 - This began with a coat of gesso and then was completely covered with spray inks. But the more I looked at it I just kept thinking odd flowers so that what I did first was the flowers and then added black gesso around them. I kind of like the hit or miss application when painting the background at the end; it gives the piece sort of a grungy, vintage look that I like.

Card 14 - I painted this one after Pentecost Sunday at church 2 weeks ago.

This concludes Week 2 of the Daisy Yellow Index Card-a-Day challenge

It's not too late to join in on the fun!

People let me tell you...

Stampotique recently released a new group of rubber stamps for the Roc Nicholas line and among them is this adorable little dog.

Of course the first thing that came to mind for him was the old adage about a dog being man's best friend, which led me to thinking about best friends in general. This in turn got me singing the Courtship of Eddie's Father theme song and then after the music in my head stopped I came up with this "best friends" journal page.

In addition to the dog stamp I also used all or part of the heart vine, the bird princess and the flying heart

Fun with Index Cards

Last week I stumbled across the  Daisy Yellow 2014 Index-Card-a-Day challenge. It's really very simple - just create some kind of art on an index card each day through the months of June and July. You can find all the details here.

I'm having so much with these cards I thought I would share them. These are the cards from my first week.

Card #1 - For my first card I started with the optional prompt which was "prism".
This was my feeble attempt to draw a prism. The quote is part of a larger Rumi quote.

Card #2 - Once again I used the optional prompt which was "circus tent".

Card #3 - I thought I would try my hand at an abstract card for this one.

Card #4 - I was going for an abstract for this one too but it just felt like something was missing so I added the bird nest. We've been keeping a list of the birds seen around our house this Spring so I guess I have birds on the brain right now. Anyway... I was happy with the way the nest sort of finished the card.

Card #5 - Back with another abstract. I recently got a few bottles of Golden paints and was having fun playing around with them. I started out with a coat of gesso then applied the new paints with a plastic card. I used watered down white paint for the circles and run marks and finished with a splatter of black acrylic.

Card #6 - This one started out to be another abstract but every time I looked at it I could see the image of a face so I finally just went with it.

Card #7 - This one started out with a random spread of gesso followed by Adirondack & Dylusions sprays. Next came some random rubber stamping and then acrylics for the tree. I shaded the tree with pan pastel and white gel pen and edged the card with black Permopaque marker.

I will be posting as I go maybe a week at a time, maybe not. Special thank you to Tammy Garcia for hosting this challenge; I'm having a lot of fun playing along.

On another note if you are here before June 13, 2014 go to my previous post to follow a Roc Nicholas rubber stamp blog hop and make sure to leave a comment for a chance to win an ATC.

Happy Spring (I'm just giddy that our snow is gone)
