I've come Full Circle

OK, I haven't really come Full Circle but I have finally finished one of the projects that I've been working on for Misty Mawn's Full Circle class.

The project was to turn an old book into a journal. The assignment was to not "over think" it. Slap some paint on each page then go back through and glue a bit of ephemera of some sort on each page and then finish the pages quickly; as I said, without over thinking the result.

First of all, I loved using up so much of the ephemera stash that I had been accumulating over time (like we all do).  As I was gluing the bits and pieces in the book I had a vague idea of what they would become but when I actually got to working on those pages most of the things turned into something completely different!

I also liked the challenge to work quickly and then move on. It was kind of a fun self-imposed challenge to see how many pages or spread I could complete in whatever time I had that day. Most of the pages could use some tweaking to make them more "finished" looking but that wasn't the point of this exercise.

Rather than post progress pictures along the way I made a flip-through video of the completed journal.

The main thing I learned about myself through this project is that I don't do subtle. No matter how hard I try to use subtle or subdued colors I always have to add a splash of brightness. I tried again and again to keep some of the spreads more neutral but very few actually ended up that way.

My new affirmation will have to be "don't fight it; embrace your splash of brightness".

As much fun as I had with this altered book I am ready to move on to the next lesson - stay tuned...

  2. I feel like I was actually there flipping the pages myself Renee! Great seeing some of your fabulous faces again and the pages really don't look as though they've been done quickly, they all look great. I think that is a major problem with me - overthinking so this idea really appeals to me
